Sunday's Sermon

Our Mission

is to be Christ centered, teaching and learning community, dedicated to reaching out to all in a spirit of caring and sharing, a community where growth in Christ inspires us to be joyful sharing people.

Weekly Devotion

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears

all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.

This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought

of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought.

This morning, during my morning walk, I couldn’t help singing this hymn. It’s a hymn we sang often in church when I was growing up. It celebrates God our Creator and the beauty of his creation.

It was written by Maltbie D. Babcock, a Presbyterian minister who enjoyed the practice of “taking morning walks to the top of a hill north of town where he had a full view of Lake Ontario and the surrounding country.” It was said that before he left for these walks, he’d often say, “I’m going out to see my Father’s world.”

I love the Autumn season because of the bright colors, and now the trees are turning in earnest. If you can, I encourage you to do the same. The brilliant reds, oranges and yellows are everywhere. They are nearing the peak of their beauty, a sort of last hurrah before winter sets in.

The second verse of the hymn goes:

This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,

The morning light, the lily white, declare their maker’s praise.

This is my Father’s world: he shines on all that’s fair;

In the rustling grass I hear him pass; he speaks to me everywhere.

May you go out to see your Father’s world. May he speak to you this day. And may you experience his nearness.

Yours in the journey,

Pastor Kristen
